Training the next generation of healthcare innovators

What We Do

Perth Biodesign provides educational training in healthcare innovation using the Stanford Biodesign methodology, which focuses on a prescriptive method of identifying unmet clinical needs, inventing solutions that address these needs and creating implementation strategies that fit within the complex healthcare landscape.

In Perth Biodesign courses, we bring together multidisciplinary teams of people passionate about making a difference in healthcare and build the connection between industry, academia, health services, and specialised services providers to create a healthcare innovation opportunity. Perth Biodesign programs are experiential in nature, focusing on biomedical entrepreneurship, are designed for the Australian biomedical environment, and thrive on the support of the local ecosystem.

*Perth Biodesign and Biodesign Australia are independent from Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign and Stanford University. Click this link for a full list of programs affiliated with Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign.

A 7 week or 3 month industry and PhD engagement program run in partnership with iPREP WA. PhD candidates spend 7 weeks or 3 months working closely with organisations on an industry defined problem.

Biodesign Bootcamps

Two full-day intensives taking participants through the entire Biodesign process - from need identification to implementation. Perfect for anyone considering the extended courses or time-poor professionals unable to commit to the full course.

UWA Biomedical Engineering

Students at The University of Western Australia enrolled in Master of Professional Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or an associated Combined Degree are able to undertake Biodesign units.

“Perth Biodesign for Medtech is fast-paced and highly informative. Over 7 months I went from knowing nearly nothing about the medtech process to being ready to co-found a start-up, which is a testament to this course and the Biodesign process.”
